Rev. Warner Guthrie, 85, of Nashville, died Saturday April 15, 2017 at the residence of his daughter in Valdosta.
He was born February 5, 1932 in Berrien County to the late Jimmie Guthrie and the late Pheriba Ford Guthrie. He retired from J.H. Harvey Company as a receiving clerk and truck driver. He was an Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Nashville VFW. He was a member of Cross Creek Baptist Church. He was an ordained minister for 60 years having served and preached the gospel in many churches. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Alma Warren Guthrie; son-in-law: Fred Atkins; sister: Betty Ruth Bennett; 3 brothers: Bremon Guthrie, Levi Guthrie and Eugene Sirmans.
He is survived by his wife: Doris Warren Guthrie of Nashville; 2 Daughters: Marie Atkins (Frank) Ruttinger of Valdosta and Evelyn (Rickie) Jarvis of Buffalo, MO; 2 step daughters: Mary Jane Adams of Nashville and Teresa (Jeff) Quillen of Nashville; step son: Buck (Brenda) Warren of Nashville; 2 sisters: Natalie Bargus of Nashville and Valarie Kent of Lakeland; 3 brothers: Ottis Guthrie of Nashville, Vernon Guthrie of Nashville and Hugh Guthrie of Lake Park; a blended family of 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, a great great grandchild and a new arrival in September.
Funeral services will be held Monday April 17, 2017 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Morris, Rev. Eddie Shumate and Rev. Mike Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Poplar Springs Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 6 to 8 PM.
