William Irvin Jones, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026.
Born on December 5, 1937, William lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to his family, and a deep appreciation for life's adventures. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960 and carried that sense of dedication and responsibility throughout his life.
During his military service, William served as a Crew Chief on the B-47 strategic bomber as part of Strategic Air Command (SAC) during the Cold War. The B-47 played a vital role in America's defense, conducting extensive training and reconnaissance missions during a critical period in world history. William was proud of his service and his association with SAC, a command widely respected for its professionalism, readiness, and commitment to preserving freedom.
William was born to Fisher Jones and Mary Griffin Jones. He was preceded in death by six brothers: Carlton Jones, Charles Jones, Robert Jones, Bill Jones, Gene Jones, and Randall Jones; five sisters: Katie Mae Weeks, Letha Marie Jones, Mamie Lee Moore, Rachel Jacobs, and one sister whose name preceded him in death; and by his cherished granddaughter, Mason Amanda Jones, whom he loved dearly. Those who knew William take comfort in imagining their joyful reunion in Heaven.
A loving and devoted single father, William worked tirelessly to provide for and support his children. He is survived by his son, Mark William Jones, and his daughter, Jennifer Lyn Jones.
He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, William Rainer Jones, Ava Jayne Tooke, Ella Grace Tooke, and Mark Samuel Fisher ("Sam") Tooke, who will forever cherish the memories and lessons he shared with them.
William is also survived by two sisters, Martha Hayes and Marjorie Ann (Gary) Snoderly, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Known for his strong work ethic, William never shied away from hard work and approached life with determination and resilience. Yet beyond his dedication, he possessed a spontaneous spirit and a love for adventure. He enjoyed traveling, embracing new experiences, and making memories wherever life took him.
William found joy in life's simple pleasures—time spent with family and friends, the beauty and peace of the ocean, and the companionship of a good book. Though he was a man of few words, the words he chose carried meaning, wisdom, and sincerity. Those who knew him understood that what he said mattered.
His love, strength, and example will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to those he loved, his quiet wisdom, and his ability to live life fully and on his own terms.
William Irvin Jones will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. May he rest in peace, reunited with those who went before him and held forever in the hearts of those who remain.
A memorial service celebrating William's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at Lovein Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Mr. Don Jacobs and Rev. Frank Morrison. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to William's children to assist with funeral expenses.
