Obituary

Wilson F. Connell, 94, of Nashville, GA, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, October 13. Mr. Connell died at home with his large family by his side.

Mr. Connell was born in Nashville on November 11, 1918. After graduating from the business school at the University of Georgia in 1940, he briefly worked as an accountant at the State Highway Department in Atlanta. When a position at the U.S. Post Office in Nashville came available, he returned to Nashville where he worked the rest of his career. During WW II, his military training took him to West Chester, PA, where he met his future bride, Marguritte (Tootie) Monaghan.

Mr. Connell was a self taught musician, historian, mechanic, electrician, and woodworker. He enjoyed researching family history and repairing and building things around his house and later his children's homes. After he retired, he also enjoyed gardening and visiting his children around the Southeast as they figured out where they would work and live.

Mr. Connell was Berrien High's biggest sports fan. In the 1960"s and 70's, when his children played sports, he attended every middle school and high school game possible. In retirement, Mr. Wilson would go to home and away games to support his teams. He particularly loved to watch girls softball and as recently as last week attended a game. He loved these kids and their parents and they loved him in return.

Mr. Connell was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church where he played the organ and was a lifetime member of VFW 5978. Mr. Connell collected stamps, coins, and a life time of family photos.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tootie , a son Johnny, brother Julian Connell, and sisters, Ruth Key, Hortense Dix, and Eleanor Brown. He is survived by three sons: Robert, David, and Joe; daughter: Cathy White; eleven grandchildren: Adam, Ben, Matt, Jake, and Kate Connell, and Amy McKinlay, Jennifer Overholser, Kristen Garroway, Sarah Evers, Michael Howell, and John David White; eleven great grandchildren: Gavin, Greysen, Aubri, Sam, and Clay Connell, Austin Chafin, Sam and Charlie Garroway, Joanna and Joy Overholser, and Thomas McKinlay.
